Captured web lead doesn't change the lead source status

Hello All,


My web lead form is working just fine and it was updating lead source field in both contacts and leads. Then one of the users accidentally edited the lead source field in contacts. So I've changed the user permissions so they won't be able to view or edit the field. After that when I get new web leads through the form now it doesn't change the lead source field in contacts anymore. Even if I gave the permissions back to that user group. I don't know what is causing this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated
